As a person who practices both paganism and demonolatry, I can say that I’m an outsider’s outsider. This is especially true when I take a look at the cultural zeitgeist going on with Utahns, the Mormon church, and ex-Mormons coming forth about the abuse that comes with that cult.

Okay, maybe I’ll be blunt: Mormon Utah culture fascinates me.

I watch a lot of Mormon-related content talking about MormonTok, MomTok, Mormon Housewives, and tons of fundie snark. One of the things that people often talk about is Mormon hair: the “dent” in short bobs or the obvious hair extensions among celebrity Mormons.

After watching a ton of TikToks, I realized there was something to it. It was almost a uniform among younger women. Almost all of them had waist length hair, often done up in curls that were very clearly salon-ready.

As it turns out, I wasn’t the only one who noticed the “Utah hair” thing. Others have too.

“Utah hair” is a major trend on TikTok as well as on YouTube.

Mormon hair (or Utah hair) is one of those things that, once you see it, you can spot it a mile away. It’s also known as “conservative hot girl hair” and it basically has three options:

• Blonde (or blondish brown) with long, long spiraling curls. It also has to be super thick, so you better believe that most women are going to go for those hair extensions.

• Short bobs done in a “dent.” This is so common, it’s known as the “Utah dent.”

• Blonde as blonde can be, paired with a deep suntan. Honestly, as a person who has this hair, I get it. However, I’m the first to admit that most peoples’ hair don’t take to bleach as well as mine — and even mine got burnt badly.

Did you notice how no one really has black or blackish-brown hair in the Mormon world? There’s a reason for that. It’s considered to be a faux pas. The Mormon Church was famous for refusing to allow black members in because they saw melanin as the “Mark of Cain.”

Blonde hair is white hair. White is holy. So the blonder you are, the holier you often appear to be to Mormons.

If you’re as adept with hair styling as I am, you already see the issue here.

Surprise: I do my own hair. This is my hair with and without extensions. I have hair that is pretty darn crispy from over 12 years of dyeing. Much of it was either blonde, grey, white, or neon colors that can only happen when you go blonde first. I know how badly this shit fries your hair.

With that said, I’m not a professional. I just cut and dye my own hair.

As someone who literally does their own hair as part of the work I do as a model, I can say that hair is a female-presenting person’s crown. It’s our glory. And if you’re not a natural platinum blonde, it’s also a royal bitch to upkeep.

While watching a video about Mormon culture, I heard the presenter discuss a disturbing issue among Mormon teens.

This video. It was this one. By Alyssa Grenfell, a person who grew up Mormon and later went the apostate route. She noticed that teens and girls in their early 20s were starting to lose their hair, get it burnt out, or even just have it go limp as a result of all the treatments they were doing to it.

Teenagers. And young adults.

Think about that. That’s when your hair should be at its most luxurious, naturally. It should not be falling out. To make a typical person’s hair fall out from dye and curling and taping…that takes a shitton of work.

Yet, it’s not entirely a new concept to see. I mean, that’s something called traction alopecia: hair loss from rubbing and pulling. (Yes, that’s how the medical community talks about it.)

Mormon hair is burnt out hair. That’s why they constantly hit the hair extensions and why their real hair tends to be short AF. At first glance, it’s easy to talk about how this might just be a matter of teens not knowing how to use dye, but it’s not.

The burnt look of Mormon hair is a perfect metaphor for how Christofascist beauty standards burn women.

Though I was never a Mormon, I grew up cult-adjacent and had a lot of friends who were deeply Mormon-like. Marriage and children, together, were the highest duty a woman could do in my best friend’s church.

It was understood that my best friend would be married at 18, in a mass wedding, to a man she never met before. Then, she was expected to pop out babies.

I wanted to be just like that, but wasn’t the right religion for a mass wedding so I had to search for my own partner. I saw how my dad treated my mom and I was like, “Marriage? HELL YES.”

This may seem like a non-sequitur, but let me explain.

In most other religions, arranged marriages are not a thing.

So, you have to find your mate. This poses a problem for women who grow up in hardline Christian households, because you’re often encouraged to marry before you even know who you are as a person.

That’s the way it is in mainstream Mormonism. Your goal as a woman is to get married as soon as possible. That’s how you show that you’re desirable and that’s how you gain status as a woman.

When you’re like that, you never really have a full camaraderie with other girls while you’re single. It’s almost as if you’re mingling with your competition. You can feel them probe you to find out who you’re with and how you got him. It’s twisted.

One thing I’ve continually heard about Mormon life is how much beauty and youth are emphasized for women. Beautiful girls are the ones who get asked out on dates faster and get married faster. Girls who conform to conservative beauty standards, though, are the ones who marry fast.

And trust me, you want to marry fast in those kinds of cultures. So, you have to pit yourself against all the other girls, just to get a man to ask you out and hopefully propose with a “ring by spring.”

Hair in Utah is a big deal and that means that girls will really, really fight for it to be perfect.

Hair, much like weight, is the basic measuring stick of beauty in these worlds. A Mormon’s hair needs to be long, luxurious, silky, and feminine — much like a Disney princess’s.

And yeah, it takes a lot of effort.

Here’s the problem with that, speaking as a model: you might be willing to do the work to get to that perfect hair status, but that doesn’t mean your hair will be willing to do the same.

Mormon hair is burnout hair.

Hair is fragile. It has a breaking point. If tugged, dyed, and dipped long enough, it will break and fall out. I ought to know, I have friends who are partly bald over bad dye jobs.

The thing is, there’s never a point where groups like this tell you that you’re okay as-is. So you keep fighting, keep curling, keep dyeing…until eventually, your hair is too brittle to stay long. It starts drying “glued together” like mine did when it got too damaged to fix.

So you cut it to a bob and pray that you can regrow it once more, adding extensions to make it look longer. And that’s how you see the life cycle of Mormon hair go.

What you’re seeing with all that crispy hair is (quite literally) your hair showing off your own burnout at chasing unattainable goals. What you’re seeing with all those extensions is a sign that you’ve gotten burnt out but still feel the need to fight for perfection.

Mormon hair is cult hair.

So let’s talk about the other big gorilla in the room: the way that hair is controlled in Mormon circles. It does seem like it’s a uniform, doesn’t it? Well, there’s a reason for that.

Mormonism has a lot of traits of a standard cult, including use of the BITE Model. The BITE Model is the go-to model for authoritarian control of others used by most cult leaders as well as sex trafficking circles.

One of the things BITE does is encourage people to control other peoples’ hair and clothing. And yes, speaking as someone who has experience with cults, having a cult lifestyle will burn you out. In this case, it shows through the hair.

PSA: If a group is trying to push you to dye, cut, or wear your hair a certain way or else…they are not your friends.

No “loving” church or “loving God” will ever want you to be someone or something you’re not. That includes pushing you to have the same hair style as everyone else who sits in those pews.

No loving deity would ever be okay with their culture being built around making people feel like they are never enough. Period. And if your hair is already crispy by 18, it may be time to put down the Bible and pick up a book on feminism.

Can I get an amen?

In recent days, a major scandal has broken out surrounding porn site Motherless and an “online rape academy” that taught men how to drug and rape women. This was not a minor circuit. This was a full-blown operation that garnered millions of views and had thousands of “students” in it.

The actual details get more disturbing. Inside the chats were…

• Men wondering whether or not the drugs they’d give their wives (or even children) would kill them. The answer was to “up the dose slowly,” in these respects.

• Men recording their assaults and sharing them with others. Many would trade these videos as if they were baseball cards. Women had no idea. Some men would even pay other men to watch them carry out these rapes.

• People selling drugs known for acting as “knockouts” to men looking to rape women. Yes, these drugs were being sold online. No, the women had no idea what their “loved ones” were doing to them.

• Men discussing their fantasies about this to other men. I mean, I’m all for consensual intox play. I’ve done it myself and usually prefer it when I am sleepy but horny and want my partner to get off.

• People telling men how to cover up their crimes. I can’t imagine the sense of betrayal their families felt when reading those messages.

Over 63 million views were attributed to the “Rape Academy” hosted on Motherless. It’s gotten so bad, the actual platform has banned the search term “sleep.”

It’s become one of the largest online scandals of its case. And more importantly — I honestly think this expose might have changed the trajectory of millions of women around the world.

I don’t think we fully appreciate the fall from grace men have been experiencing.

Men’s PR couldn’t be worse if it tried. I remember what life was like in the 2000s. I sat in a doctor’s chair with STD tests after I was rufied. I’d woken up in a small pool of my own blood. When I stood up, a razor fell out from between my legs.

So, I got up, got on the train, went to school high as a kite, then went to seek help. I went to the STD clinic to find out if I had anything. The nurse across from me was glaring at me, saying, “Why did you drink that?”

She made it clear that I was “asking for it” by being a dancer at a club. She wrote “raped” in red ink on my file, gave me another nasty look, and a doctor spoke to me. Neither offered to make a police report over what happened.

That was how life was. Men could do no wrong. If a woman got raped, it would somehow turn into a whole spiel about what she could have done to prevent it. The rapist was just given a “tut-tut,” but would go on with his life unbothered.

By the 2010s, #MeToo happened and people started holding rapists accountable. By 2016, more and more horrific behavior from men started to bubble to the surface. By 2020, newspapers started to write about women’s dating burnout and trauma from bad dates.

In the past, men had always painted themselves to be providers and protectors. They always painted themselves up to be these leaders of the family. Today, that paint has peeled and women are no longer willing to take the gambit on going out with a man who could end their lives.

Whether it was hate rhetoric from Andrew Tate, stories of Epstein trafficking kids, or the things that happened behind closed doors didn’t matter. What mattered was that it became clear that men were not the protectors they painted themselves to be.

It’s 2026 now.

There have been so many scandals about male influencers, manosphere dating guides, widespread rape acceptance, and misogynistic politicians that I’ve lost count. And most women are aware because they’ve lived it: through awful dates, through being blamed for “giving a guy a chance,” and through realizing they’re playing a game they can’t win.

While every scandal seems to have affected women, the “Rape School” seems to have been a breaking point.

A friend of mine had told me that the story made her realize she no longer trusts men at all. She said, “You know, that made me realize that the men in my life are all strangers. Even if I was married for 20 years, I don’t know that man. I can never assume that he won’t do something like that to me.”

This is an attitude that may seem extreme at first glance, but is it? Is it really? Many of the victims of this Rape School would have trusted these men with their lives. Some were married for decades. And yet…here we are.

There’s something absolutely visceral about reading about the betrayal these women experienced. It shouldn’t be so familiar, yet it is. Almost every woman I know has experienced betrayal and trauma related to a man.

After a certain point, almost every woman I know has thrown her hands in the air and asked whether or not it’s even worth consorting with men at all. As the days pass, more and more women are choosing to trust no men — simply because the “safe” men seem to be content with proving that they aren’t as safe as they appear.

Men are reacting to the Rape School story in the worst way possible.

How are so many of them reacting? By treating it like a PR gaffe and acting exactly the way that the predators in that story reacted when their wives began to feel something amiss.

So far, I’ve seen men…

• Try to minimize how many views the group got. Why aren’t they angry that thousands of men were involved? Oh right. Because they would do it too.

• Try to correct women on the terms they used for this. I’ve also seen some men squeal about “misandry.” Jeez, they really can’t even bother to try to act like they care about women, can they?

• Ask for women to remember #notallmen or ask for praise for standing up for them. Fucking really? Y’all need a damn cookie for being a decent person? And as for #notallmen, well…a hit dog hollers. Not all men, but definitely the ones who need to correct women.

• Harass women who brought it up. Because really, they think intimidating women into submission will work.

Basically, they’re proving exactly why women are no longer interested in them. They’re proving women right. Men hate women. They hate them so much, they only see them as objects to produce more men.

And you know what? The way they treat this as an attack on male reputation says it all. The mask dropped beyond the point of being able to return from it within our lifetimes.

Let’s kick this off with a little story about what I was like as an angsty, gifted and talented teen. I was not a happy teen. And it showed in my obsessions pretty badly.

As a teenager, I was all about studying nuclear weaponry and weapons of mass destruction. I even studied under Joseph Rotblat, one of the last surviving members of the Manhattan Project, in the late 2000s. (SPUSA, yo!)

Nukes were just…cool to me. I was an angry, angry kid back then. And I loved the idea of having a weapon that could annihilate thousands or even millions with a single drop. I also loved the idea of working with teratogenic chemical weapons as a way of “salting the earth,” so to speak.

Part of the reason I loved the idea of working with these types of weapons was because I was angry all the time. The other part is because I never really thought I would see a time in my life when nukes might actually be used.

So, my studies and work were partly, “Ooh! Fear me!” and partly, “Oh damn, at least I never will actually see this stuff used. But I can be a badass and learn how to make these things!”

Well, enter Donald Trump’s 47th presidency. It’s not so cool anymore.

We live in an era when nuclear wars or even bombing power plants can happen at any moment.

The war in Iran was basically entirely unprovoked — a retaliation on the world by Trump once the Epstein files went public. He lost face, so he decided that others should lose lives.

Problem: Iran absolutely eviscerated America’s public image to the world, or at least, what was left of it.

Bigger Problem: The vast majority of Americans do not want a war with Iran. Even hardcore Trumpers are now second-guessing their votes now that little Timmy and Billy-Bob might get blown to bits in the Middle East and they won’t have healthcare to come back to.

Bigger Problem: Trump is a malignant narcissist and even in his (potentially) dementia-filled mind, he realizes it’s not looking good. Trump cannot stand the idea of being seen as a source of shame. Of course, that’s going to be his legacy in history.

Big Bad Problem: Trump is having a colossal extinction burst. When narcissists have their extinction bursts, they will break everyone near them apart. This is how family annihilations happen, how murder-suicides happen, and how dictators decide to genocide.

In other words, what I’m saying is that Trump is crazy enough to cause nuclear disasters because people aren’t falling for his economic terrorism. Hungary’s Orban losing the election is proof to everyone (including Trump) that the right is failing and flailing.

This means that if we were ever at a time when we might have Midnight on the Doomsday Clock happen, it’s right now.

I’m going to be straight honest with you: I believe Trump’s invasion of Iran was a way to play the market and tip it in his favor. I also believe this entire war was a way for Trump to get an ego trip.

He wanted to flaunt his power to kill innocent people in a way that made people and countries afraid of him. He decided to hit Iran — much to the chagrin of many of the diplomats under his regime.

As a person who hangs out almost exclusively in left-leaning circles, I find it rare to hear anyone say anything good about Trump. Even when I’m not among friends, I noticed that most conservatives are no longer interested in supporting the war in Iran.

The war with Iran is not just a massive failure on a military level. It’s also one of the biggest PR gaffes I’ve ever seen. Iran isn’t just fighting fire with fire. They’re taking the internet by storm with media, winning the support of many throughout the world.

Not sure what I’m talking about? Let me explain.

Wars tend to fail when the aggressors no longer want to fight.

To understand why this is so powerful, one has to understand war. High morale and troops with “righteous fury” are troops who will fight tooth and nail to accomplish the goals of the war.

Weakening troop morale is a great way to encourage people to stop attacking a country. And Iran has excellent methods for making others feel a little uneasy about the invasion.

The soldiers in Iran right now are not happy. When they go back home, people are going to treat them like monsters. They are aware of this. It’s harming morale among soldiers and anyone else who is working under Trump.

The world is watching Trump bully Iran, and Iranians have not been silent over this.

Let’s start off with the most obvious issue with the attack on Iran: it’s a global news issue. Unlike other actions taken by Trump — such as his recent requirement that his signature appear on the dollar bill — this war raises wide-ranging consequences.

In other words, countries could ignore Trump’s genocide of American transpeople or give him a “tsk, tsk.” It’s not so easy to ignore bombings, the murder of foreigners, and brutality in non-American countries. It’s also not so easy to ignore when that tyrant threatens other countries.

Iranians are aware that the world is watching what Trump is doing to them. They are acutely aware of how everyday people are starting to perceive the United States. Iranians, particularly those in the government, started to encourage videos to “leak” online of the aftermath of the war kicked off by America and Israel.

You don’t have to look too far to find jaw-dropping videos of Americans committing unspeakable acts on civilians online. There are already videos of women’s last moments being broadcast during “double tap” bombings in Iran and countless photos of parents grieving their children.

If you think, for a moment, that every day citizens abroad haven’t seen those same videos and news headlines, you’re wrong. If you think that they haven’t had an impact on foreign opinions of Americans, you’re doubly wrong.

I’ve had so many friends of mine say that they remember being treated very well abroad, only to see people cool off in the past 10 years. Some admit they feel people sizing them up — as if they’re wondering if they’ll start spouting some racist shit in the middle of a restaurant.

That’s the effect of the negative press America has earned in the past two decades. And Iran has been making a point of ratcheting up that negative press for all the right reasons. We Americans have done wrong by Iran for decades, including when we removed the Shah all those years ago.

We’re just getting what is due to us. We were the bad guys to Iran. We are still the bad guys.

Iran has also been working hard on baiting Trump by attacking his own issues.

This video above is a part of a series of LEGO-themed videos launched by Iran’s state government. They’re all done with the purpose of getting under Trump’s skin.

Once again, this is not just a matter of war. It’s retaliation because Trump himself released multiple videos mocking the deaths he caused through the use of AI-generated slop. He started it. Iran decided to mess with his fragile ego through LEGO stories.

And honestly? It’s been working.

They keep bringing up the Epstein Files in their discourse because they know Trump loathes the mention of it. Trump turned trolling into the way global discourse happens. Unfortunately, Trump is able to understand when people troll him, despite him being dumb as shit.

An NPR article noted that Professor Whitney Phillips explained, “This is the language in which Trump speaks — and this is the language in which world leaders are now speaking to him.”

All of this trolling? It’s been sending him into a spiral. That’s why he’s been lashing out online, doing unhinged posts all over X, calling Hormuz the “Strait of Trump,” and started to triple down on the idea that Iran is “trying to make a deal.”

What’s interesting is that Iran’s media clapbacks has actually started to make Iranian creatives look incredible.

Yep. I’m dropping this poster here because it’s so iconic, it’s now considered to be one of the best in Reddit’s r/DesignPorn subreddits. And it’s pretty damn bold — likely enough to get the person who made that some serious international clients.

Hell, even the LEGO trolling has gotten Trump rattled to the point that his dumbass is mulling over sending ground troops to Iran. (This is going to go over *really* well with his military voters and MAGA parents of soldiers once midterms start.)

I’m not surprised. The truth is that Iran has a long, long history of using propaganda. It’s not unlike Iran to flex their creativity in a way that would be designed to sway public opinion. They have a legit cyber police force because they understand the power of media.

Perhaps the biggest “killshot” was when Iranian hackers leaked FBI head Kash Patel’s photos.

Global humiliation is devastating to a country that is run by narcissists, especially when it comes with your name attached to things. That’s beyond a saber rattle. That’s one of those things that will make many politicians flee their posts.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Iran wins this war using their media prowess. They know how to fuck with a narcissist. And it’s a damn shame that they have to do this because of America’s senseless murder of innocent children and families.

You know what’s weird about the United States? I noticed that most of its history involved being untouched by outside forces. There was never a moment when Russia nuked us. There was never a moment when Germany air raided the mainland, though Japan did do Pearl Harbor.

In high school, perhaps college, I was told to read Persepolis as a part of required reading. Awesome! It’s a graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi, who grew up during the Iranian Revolution and later escaped to the United States once Islamic fundamentalists took hold of the government.

During my time in college, I read this book and found it interesting — like looking into an alien world. I couldn’t even conceive of how an entire country could fall to the hands of extremists at that level.

I want to talk about Iranian history for a sec.

Behold. This was Iran before the current regime: women in bikinis, women walking in the streets, and a fairly secular-lite lifestyle in the city areas. If you didn’t know any better, you’d have thought that it was a series of photos in the United States back in the day.

Then, the Iranian Revolution happened. For those not in the know, a group of Islamic “traditionalists” got angry about White Influence — also known as the Western influence over Iran. Others began to get irate over the Shah’s autocratic rule and foolish economic ideas.

This alone wouldn’t have upset so many people, but there was another major issue: the CIA backed the extremists as a way to weaken the state, gain power over the country, and increase their oil buyouts. After a series of potentially false flag events, the revolution happened.

The Shah’s kingdom fell. In its place was one of the most restrictive, misogynistic regimes in the Middle East. And that’s where we are today: a country that has become world famous for terror cells, misogyny, poverty, and being ruined by the United States CIA.

‘Persepolis’ is about life in Iran through the eyes of a teenage girl.

It’s honestly a great book. If you’ve wanted to see things like how kids originally mad fun of the revolutionaries, how parents would coach their kids into lying about praying five times a day, or how people lose their faith in God due to theocratic bullshit, this is a great book for you.

Back in the day, I would call this a “fun” book because it was so unlike what I grew up in — for the most part. I thought it was wild to see a world where women had to cover up their heads due to religious doctrine. I also thought it was wild to hear how often students were at the head of the revolt.

Perhaps what caught my eye the most was the way Iran was described before the revolution. Piece by piece, Persepolis showed how people adapted to living under a theocracy. Every single thing that Marjane enjoyed slowly got slipped away while everyone did nothing.

The results were displayed in strange, yet very “normal” ways.

Much of the high-conformity behavior we see in Iranians came out of laws that got placed by the Islamic State. Prior to the revolution, Iran had a major rock scene. It also had interesting clothing choices that didn’t create a near-uniform for women in the country.

As a student, I found it laughable that a country that was getting so progressive would become a theocracy.

Full disclosure: I’m not proud of how stupid I was back then. I saw the fall of Iran as a failing of the Iranian people. I saw that they believed in science and equality, only to walk back everything and become this country that seems to take away any way for women to succeed.

It seemed unreal. Of course, like any other person filled with naivete, I also believed that there was no way that this would ever happen to the United States. We were “too progressive for that to happen,” and I thought we were past that point of risk.

To younger me, I saw Persepolis as an interesting story of a land far, far away. I didn’t see it as a warning. I saw it as something that was so foreign, it was thought-provoking, almost like a good sci-fi novel with extra dystopian world-building.

Oh, how wrong I was.

Today, America is going through its own ‘Persepolis,’ if you get my drift.

History has repeatedly shown that a religious socity is not going to work out well for its members. Theocracies kill freedoms and cooperation. The church becomes the state, which is why people regularly try to flee the country.

America is being attacked by outside forces, most commonly Russia. The goal is simple: to encourage destabilization by planting foreign agents as politicians while deposing actual patriots. Along with backing presidents, these attacks also include propaganda dissemination.

Most Americans have noticed an uptick in propaganda online. There’s now an entire industry that is dedicated to Mormon influencers as a method of converting new members. These Christofascists also use politics as a way to grab more power.

Right now, we’re seeing a lot of signs of a country about to go through a revolution:

• Propaganda. Yep. We all see the lies. They’re literally rewriting history.

• Violence in all forms. Hate speech? Check. Violent actions in the street, particularly by the revolutionaries? Check.

• Silence by the aggressors. We all have seen how the rules never apply to the GOP by now, right?

• Focus on God. In a healthy secular society, there is a separation between the church and the state.

• Massive exodus of minorities and wealthy people. Seriously, immigration is at an all-time high now.

• Rollback of civil rights. LGBTQIA+ and women tend to be the ones who are hit the worst in terms of what is taken from them.

We are in Persepolis right now. It’s no longer a “far away world.” These days, I could see parents eventually coaching Little Timmy or Little Tina to say, “Oh, we pray five times a day. Christianity and Trump are very important to us.”

If nothing changes for the better, you’ll see a lot of citizens leaving the country with no return ever coming. You’ll see women talk about how good things used to be “before all that happened,” and you’ll see more and more people disappear in the night.

Recently, a news headline hit both US and UK airwaves that shocked the world: a Texan father shot his British daughter to death shortly after they had a heated argument over Trump. More specifically, these details from the New York Post stood out to me:

• The daughter, Lucy Harrison, was arguing that Trump’s stance on sexual assault was bad. She asked him what he would think if she were assaulted by Trump.

• The father, Kris Harrison, was an alcoholic on a relapse. He also said he wouldn’t have cared if Trump assaulted her.

• He asked Lucy if she would like to see a gun he got, then shot her. Then, he called his wife to look at their dead daughter’s body.

• More shockingly, a grand jury in Texas refused to indict him. This is a murder on a UK citizen over Donald Trump. It’s also a case of filicide by a father. He was not charged in her killing.

A father.

A father killed his own daughter over Donald Trump.

He chose Donald Trump over his own daughter to that extent.

Think about that. Really, think about that. He chose a man who doesn’t even know he exists over his own child. For most of us, this type of murder is unfathomable — truly unthinkable.
