I Worked In Porn. Here’s Why I Don’t Advise People To Do OnlyFans
It’s not for everyone. In fact, I’d wager it’s not for most people.
“Do you have an OnlyFans?” the random dude on the internet asked.
No, no, I do not. I’ve been advised, multiple times, that I “absolutely should try it,” but here’s the thing: I don’t want to and for good reason. I’ve worked in the porn industry as a journalist/blogger and as a CMO of a defunct camming company.
While I’ll fight to the death for the right for sex workers to make their money safely, I’ll also be the first to say that this industry is one of the most difficult I’ve ever made a foray into.
Not for nothing, but I’ve done regular modeling, model agency booking, fashion promotion, and I write for a living. Cutthroat is what I’m used to. OnlyFans and adult content creation is an entirely different animal.
You have every right to consider an OnlyFans or an camsite account, but before you do, I am going to advise you against it. Here’s why.
You probably are grossly overestimating how much money you can make with this.
Ask any cam model or OF girl, and she’ll tell you that this is not as simple as “remove clothing, receive money.” It’s a full-time job where you have to have a legitimate social media marketing campaign and invest in your looks.
Most people do not have the number of followers it takes to actually get a full-time living on OnlyFans or as a cam model — at least, to begin with. However, you will still have to work full-time if you want to get a living wage.
