If Your Therapist Does This To You, Walk Out That Door
This can happen to anyone, but it seems to be a woman-centric issue.
”I don’t want to talk about this,” I said. “For the last time, you’re not listening to me. I don’t want kids.”
“Yes, and why is this?” my psychiatrist asked. “Do you think it has to deal with your promiscuity?”
“This isn’t what I booked you for. I don’t like kids. I booked you to deal with the bullying I’m getting at school,” I said.
“But you could be having kids soon,” he said. “You’re a young woman, we need to unpack your trauma so you can have the family you should have.”
I got up and told him that I’m not paying for the session. This is far from the only event that has made me decide against seeking treatment for most of my health problems, but it’s one that stood out in my mind.
Why? Because I’m not the only one who this has happened to.
