I have a feeling that I’m going to get a lot of hate from my followers for this topic, but I really can’t keep quiet anymore. As a person who is a size 16/18 and weighs over 200 pounds, I understand the stigma that comes with being fat.

I’ve seen so many people treat me as less-than just because of my waistline. It actively hurt the way I see dating and mainstream men. Trust me when I say that being fat left me with a lot of emotional scars and that I struggled with eating disorders for years.

With that said, I feel like I need to address the thing that no one wants to touch: the toxicity of fat influencers.

Before we begin, I want to point out that fat influencers can be a very positive influence on society.

While some might argue otherwise, I see the benefits of having a fat acceptance and fat influencer scene. Fat stigma is real. It can harm your dating life, your ability to stay employed, and even your ability to find clothes that fit.

Not too long ago, it was damn near impossible to make clothes that looked cute as a size 20. Today, I can find a ton of outfits that are perfect for photoshoots. It wouldn’t be the case without trendy fat influencers in the goth scene, so thank you for that.

I also appreciate that fat influencers are ready to help people get more confident in their skin, and that they openly point out that not everyone can lose weight. Weight loss can absolutely be an ableist issue. Fat influencers are quick to point that out.

For that, I think we can all applaud them.
