The closest I've been to the Wall street crowd is BILLIONS, the show on Showtime and Industry on? So glad I'm not in it!
This is your usual well- written, thoughtful and educational piece. It's no wonder we as a country are exploding into bad, destructive and, yes, evil behavior. Having our ugly parts out there is the only way we can begin to heal.
Wow. You keep it real. I keep thinking how illogical and whacked white nationalists behave. Your piece correlating drug use and behaviors explain so much. Many decades ago I was at a seminar where a former DEA agent who used do undercover work presented information on how to recognize users of various drugs in educational settings and in real life. Your article reminded me of his visceral experiences. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Ms. Tepfenhart -- the actual NAZIs were notorious drug users (methamphetamine, primarily; but other "white powders, as well -- https://www.history.com/news/inside-the-drug-use-that-fueled-nazi-germany). In fact, several historians have hypothesized that the "tireless fury" that appeared to make the NAZI war machine unstoppable (at least, in the early days of That War) was a side effect of the speed that was issued routinely to front-line troops ("... to keep them alert"🤣)
Yep. Having experienced the tireless fury myself, I understand a lot of how they function. People don't understand how powerful and smart cocaine makes you feel.
Then of course old Adolph was very fond of speed, and had his scientist make a special strain for the troops.
But as Norman Ohler shows in Blitzed: Drugs in Nazi Germany, methamphetamine was the privileged exception. While other drugs were banned or discouraged, methamphetamine was touted as a miracle product when it appeared on the market in the late 1930s. Indeed, the little pill was the perfect Nazi drug: “Germany, awake!” the Nazis had commanded. Energizing and confidence boosting, methamphetamine played into the Third Reich’s obsession with physical and mental superiority. In sharp contrast to drugs such as heroin or alcohol, methamphetamines were not about escapist pleasure. Rather, they were taken for hyper-alertness and vigilance. Aryans, who were the embodiment of human perfection in Nazi ideology, could now even aspire to be superhuman—and such superhumans could be turned into supersoldiers. “We don’t need weak people,” Hitler declared, “we want only the strong!” Weak people took drugs such as opium to escape; strong people took methamphetamine to feel even stronger.
Excellent analysis, Ms. O. I'm reminded of the George Carlin and Robin Williams coke quotes.
George Carlin said “Cocaine makes you feel like a new man. Only problem is the first thing the new man wants is a line of coke.” Robin Williams said "Coke is God's way of telling you you're making too much money." They both spoke from ample experience.
Cocaine comes in many forms and who uses which form depends in part on social class. Wall Street and other businessmen like the common powder form. People not as high on the social class will be more favorable toward CRACK While Crack is a more portent form of Cocaine, taking any Cocaine is dangerous because regardless of what is often said COCAINE IS ADDICTIVE, PERIOD. Whether it is psychologically or physically addicting does not matter, because take too much of this shit for too long and you die. Sigman Freud had a horrible battle with Cocaine addiction. He was first an eye surgeon (believe it or not) and he found out through trial and error that he could freeze the eye by drops of cocaine in the eye. This allowed him to do very complicated eye surgery with a completely docile and cooperative patient (though never confirmed I have a feeling many of his patients ingested the drug before surgery). Then he started snorting it, I am not sure why, with some really ugly consequences. I do not think he ever fully recovered from his Cocaine addiction, but when he was an old man he acknowledged that taking Cocaine IN ANY FORM OR MANNER is dangerous and should not be done by anyone.
Makes sense. I met a couple of people from Europe who used to work in finance and they said it burned them out, eventually leaving that industry. The one who worked for Morgan Stanley for 15 years said he always felt like it was never good enough and his bosses would tell him to work harder and do more. Another left at age 22 because it was too overwhelming. It's a cutthroat industry. Glad you got out and you know what’s up. It's not surprising these Wall Street bros and white supremacists use white powder. Yet they get away with it.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your experiences and your writing. Ossinia, you write what you know, which makes your writing powerful. My knowledge of all of this is almost totally academic. I tried a 10mg gummy once and had paranoia, I'm just that much of a lightweight. I'm also bipolar, so since I can touch the rings of Saturn all-by-my-self, why use chemicals?
So, if they are hopped up on all this stuff, someone will make a mistake, and hopefully it will be a big one. Let's just hope that when it happens, the people who know how to counter it will step in. At least that is my prayer.
Well, here's what I can tell you about drug use: it generally wears away your cognitive abilities over time. This is especially true if you're taking enough to loll your head around like Elon.
Very, very few people are truly functional addicts when it comes to uppers.
I thought I was a functional addict, but honestly? My writing sucks when I churn out articles nonstop without sleep. At one point, I forgot how to do subject-verb agreement and my articles started to slide into "raver vernacular," which is a street dialect of its own.
This is doubly true when it comes to things like coke and meth. I know a lot of people who use uppers. I knew only ONE truly functional, grounded person who used meth frequently. He used it as a way to curb his ADHD until his heart exploded in his early 40s.
Most other meth users who keep themselves together rarely use---like maybe once a month at most. And then, they often do so as a way to curb their ADHD when it gets out of control, just like my late friend did.
Ketamine is worse than most uppers when it comes to sanity. I have lost a LOT of friends to ketamine. Like, they were literally using until they killed their kidneys and liver. No joke, ketamine kinda scares me.
Have I seen functional ketamine users? Yes, but they usually do very little---not actually enough to get "high," but rather, just enough to take the edge off when they have PTSD attacks.
Long-term ketamine addicts (like the ones that can't focus their eyes because they're using it that hard or flop over in a K-hole) tend to lose their grip on reality. I've seen that drug turn people into totally delusional, paranoid nightmares. And depending on the person, their tempers can get SCARY.
Elon's addiction scares me for a number of reasons, because giving that much power to a hardcore ketamine user is a veritable ticking time bomb.
I remember a cardiac ultrasound tech explaining how the heart told her so much information about the lifestyle of the patient. Athletes and drug addicts tend to have enlarged hearts.
I live on the West Coast so I have had some experience with Entertainment People and since I was an attorney, Entertainment Attorneys. My husband is a CPA that advises entertainers on tax issues. There seem to be two types of Entertainers: The serious ones (I am not naming names) and the not serious ones. The serious ones rarely take drugs at all, that includes alcholoe, I would say alcohole is still the MOST serious problem for Entertainers (and others) despite that fact that there are so many drugs out there to abuse and the abuse is tolerated. Alchole is a class in itself, I like to drink wine, I have been accused of being a "win snob", but I am pretty mild mannered when it comes to many wine drinkers I know. Too much of anything is a BAD THING!!!!!
Very true. I noticed a lot of entertainers are serious but rely on coke to get them through shows at times. They tend to die early or retire early. Or, if they're very serious, they eventually get sober when their addictions get to be too much for tour.
And I do love me some alcohol. Wine was my go-to. However, I try to limit myself to drinking twice a month, max. Besides, my kratom/kava habit means that I tend to vomit every time I drink now. It's probably for the best.
I've never done coke, ever. I've never even seen it!
I cannot handle anything stronger than one cup of coffee. Two cups of coffee has me in a horrible, jittery state. But because of my sleep issues, a doctor gave me some Provigil samples once. It is not supposed to make you jittery. Oh! My! God! I took half a dose and could not stop talking. My husband didn't even know I'd taken it and said, "What is wrong with you?" I threw out the rest. It's my understanding that that drug is popular in the circles you talk about.
Me, I only want relaxation. Give me a glass of wine or a gummy or a nice prescription sleep aid if anything at all. I cannot stand being hopped up!
Enjoyed this piece. Lucky I've been dirt poor for years or the cocaine would probably have grabbed me. But here's a question, and don't take it the wrong way. How did you find out about the drug habits of white nationalists? Or did I miss something while reading?
Holy wow. This should be mainstream news. Excellent article!

It hurts, but it's good.
Keep on pushing it, but take care-- we need you.

... been there; done that; what's next??👎👎🚫
I posted the same thing but from a different article.
Heartfelt, fascinating piece. Your coffee button didn’t work for me. Thank you for sharing this!

What is Kratom/Kava, is that somekind of medicine that deters you for drinking alchole?
They're herbs that curb anxiety, increase focus, reduce pain and keep my PTSD away

How come there aren't more overdose deaths in that cohort from poisoned powder?
