My ex mother in law wanted this. Thankfully, she was simply unable to conceive any more. It would have been bad. Very bad.
By the way, they don't pop out babies just as a status symbol, although that's a huge part of it, but because they want to outbreed everyone else and then raise up an army to take over the country for Christian Nationalism. Project 2025 isn't new. These people have been working on this for 50-60 years, and all these kids are part of the takeover plan.
Oh fuck that reduces them to gestational slaves. Breeders for Jesus. It's also harder for the older mother to continue to pop out babies like rabbits, the older you get, the more can, and often does go wrong (your eggs get old) it sounds like they can't just enjoy being a grandmother, which is sad
Just when I think I have heard it all, they come up with a new horror. I just feel sorry for the kids that are part of a litter. I think humans require more love, and attention, than those poor kids will get.
Unfortunately this isn't even anything new. I see I'm not the only one in this comment section who remembers the "Quiverful" movement a decade plus back, and I'm willing to bet similar ideas go much further back.
Weirdo evangelicals, yes. The idea is you're producing soldiers for Jesus and then you can outnumber the unbelievers. At any rate, the little soldiers are not supposed to need all those resources because education would just corrupt them... yadda yadda yadda.
But they've always been doing that: social media just makes it visible.
Honestly? I think you are being too forgiving of these people. You repeatedly state the age of eighteen as the floor for child rearing. It's really more like 15 or 16 in those communities.
Yeah, I read something called "the opinionated ogre", explicitly going as hard in the paint as possible, and concluded y'all wimped out. Sorry. But these pricks are all about raping children, and we should call them out on it.
Didn’t this used to be associated with poverty and being in a backwards community in the Ozarks? Nonstop pregnancies; children giving birth to their father’s child? Generations of people stuck in degrading circumstances?
If that works for you fine; but for most of us it is not a status symbol.
P sure this is connected to that "Quiverful" movement and its demographic-political agenda I remember reading about maybe a decade plus back.
The Christofascists want lots and lots of impressionable little larval-stage Mini-Mes who'll be raised to follow the herd and do its bidding when they grow up.
I went to catholic high school in the 70s. I had several friends whose mother's were pregnant. I just remember my friends being embarrassed and didn't want to talk about it. They could not wait to go to college and get away from all the stress of being the oldest daughter.
With that many kids and just one income, what are the chances these families are also using taxpayer provided public assistance like SNAP and Medicaid?? At least they were.
You are so right. Now a days with advances in fertility older women can birth children when they otherwise could not. Just because YOU CAN DO SOMETHING DOES NOT MEAN YOU SHOULD DO SOMETHING! Having children is great, but being a Grandmother is just as rewarding, I am finding that out now with one grandchild, and two others on the way. I DO NOT need any more kids even I could have them. I want to enjoy being a Grandmother.
Thank you for pointing out the weirdness of "how women get so vocal about refusing to use their rights or even protect their rights." They don't seem to realize that if it hadn't been for all the women fighting for these rights, they wouldn't be able to be "vocal" the way that they are. So clueless!

Yep, about a decade ago I went down the QuiverFull movement, and was horrified (almost as much as when I went down the PUA/MRA rabbit hole

Yup. It's horrifying.

Oh yes, hiding the fact that the Duggars were actually quiverful and pretending they were regular baptists was disgusting on the part of TLC.

elm
there aren't enough of them

You and the Ogre are so right. Rape is rape and children can’t consent.
Oh, I love him!

It is not admirable.

I grew up Catholic and went to Catholic school, where I had an aunt and her niece in the same class. 🫣

A friend of mine was 18 and starting at Central Michigan when his youngest brother was born.
It honestly didn’t strike me as weird until I was old enough to understand what this meant. 😆
That had to be weird.

That Fox show should have been called "The Hamsters."
No, lemmings don't do that mass death thing. Someone put it in a movie to add dramatic effect and it became 'Gospel."
That's how we get "Gospel." in all its forms.
It's fundamental.
Thanks. Check out my "Parable of the Ostrich" on another one of those "Gospel truths." Fred

Yes! Grandma time should be funtime
I know a Mormon family with six children, ranging from early 20s to toddler.
The oldest son got married last August. His wife is pregnant, and the baby is due in October.
That baby’s youngest uncle will be about 3 or 4 when she’s born.
I was doing just fine in life without knowing this was a thing. Yikes.
Well said.
Yes, you are right
Holy smokes. I have never heard of this. Totally whacked out. Wow!
