Read This If You Are Worried About Large-Scale Unsubs (And News About My Posting)
News about Google got me shook.
As many folks know, there seems to be a major issue with my free fan unsubscribes as of late. I’ve asked Substack Support about it and have been told, like many others, that it could be a display issue. Still, something seemed off because it’s been getting harder to actually believe it and emails are disappearing off my list.
I’m not 100 percent sure it’s not an issue, but after getting information from
support, I found out it could be something else…I’m just going to drop this below…
Google’s 1-Click Unsubscribe function could be killing your numbers.
As of right now, I’m not 100 percent sure what’s going on with my emails or my numbers. However, Substack’s support has a point. This could absolutely be an issue and it could be the cause of many of my friends’ drops in numbers.
And honestly, I *do* publish every day. That makes approximately one email per day.
So I’ve been thinking that maybe it’s time to scale back those emails. I feel like paid fans will know where to find me. Or maybe I should create a solution that somehow fixes things.
Edit: Atomic Is Up. It’s here:
Subscribe for biweekly emails from ALL my accounts!
At the same time, I also get worried about my view rates and how people will find me.
No cap, I really do want to expand this newsletter but I need my fans to guide me here. I need to figure out how to either a) make a dual option for daily or biweekly mailers or b) cut down on my emails or c) keep schlepping on.
Right now, I’m thinking of making another newsletter that is literally just biweekly email blasts of ALL my writing work across a bunch of different platforms, including Ragged Riches. This would make it possible for people to get their fix.
In other words, I’m going to leave this up to my fans until I come up with a solution. I’m asking you guys to tell me how you feel and how you want to get those emails sent to your box.
Now, let’s get to the meat and potatoes.
A lot of Substackers were worried they were getting muzzled, but it’s really not looking like this is the case. Google likely shafted us. That’s okay, we can adapt.
With that said, I love you guys and wanna hear what everyone else thinks about the subscriber drops. Is it a display issue? Is it Google? Where are y’all at?
I enjoy your posts - which come to me, as a free subscriber, as emails - but I subscribe to LOTs of writers so it can get a bit overwhelming. At the same time, I don't want to miss what you've posted.
According to Puck, Substack may be going the way of Medium. They're looking for investors. Medium never found them, that's why they don't pay anymore.
